Lead Me

This song has been running through my mind off and on for the last few days.  The first time I heard it I was driving and almost had to pull over because of the tears running down my face.
Lead Me
Sanctus Real
I look around and see my wonderful life
Almost perfect from the outside
In picture frames I see my beautiful wife
Always smiling
But on the inside, I can hear her saying…“Lead me with strong hands
Stand up when I can’t
Don’t leave me hungry for love
Chasing dreams, what about us?

Show me you’re willing to fight
That I’m still the love of your life
I know we call this our home
But I still feel alone”

I see their faces, look in their innocent eyes
They’re just children from the outside
I’m working hard, I tell myself they’ll be fine
They’re independent
But on the inside, I can hear them saying…

Lead Me with Strong hands
Stand up when I can’t
Don’t leave me hungry for love
Chasing dreams, but what about us?

Show me you’re willing to fight
That I’m still the love of your life
I know we call this our home
But I still feel alone”

So Father, give me the strength
To be everything I’m called to be
Oh, Father, show me the way
To lead them
Won’t You lead me?

To lead them with strong hands
To stand up when they can’t
Don’t want to leave them hungry for love,
Chasing things that I could give up

I’ll show them I’m willing to fight
And give them the best of my life
So we can call this our home
Lead me, ’cause I can’t do this alone

Father, lead me, ’cause I can’t do this alone

This so describes out world today.  How many of us “look” perfect on the outside, yet we are so hungry for love.  So many of the things that people who call themselves Christians are fighting over are just symptoms of a hurting and hungry world looking for love.  Abortion isn’t the problem, it’s a symptom.  Homosexuality isn’t the problem, it’s a symptom.  Gossip isn’t the problem, it’s a symptom.  Our biggest problem is lack of leadership.  We refuse Christs leadership and we can’t do this.

So many people get caught up in the thou shalt not’s that they neglect the thou shalts.

The Pharisees were masters of the thou shalt not’s.  Here’s what Jesus had to say to them:

Matthew 22:34-40 — (Mk 12:28-31)

34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together.

35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:

36“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

38 This is the first and greatest commandment.

39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Two things Christ says to focus on, Love God with your whole self, and Love others as you love yourself.  Are we doing this when we focus on what we or they shouldn’t be doing?

The song has the right idea,  So Father, give me the strength To be everything I’m called to be Oh, Father, show me the way To lead them Won’t You lead me?  If our focus is on Him we won’t see all that others are doing that they shouldn’t be doing, we will however, see what we need to change in order to be more like Him.
